The Museum Inn
The Museum, a part-thatched country inn dating back to the 17th century was built by the father of modern archaeology, General Augustus Lane Fox Pitt Rivers.
The inn was built to offer accommodation and refreshments for the nearby museum and as described by the General: "It is exceedingly clean and the food good. Mr Day keeps two horses and a trap for the use of customers".
Today The Museum offers a traditional inn, separate restaurant and eight en-suite bedrooms. All the original features have been retained to create a warm relaxed atmosphere with an inglenook fireplace, flagged stone floors and antique furniture. There is also a residents' sitting room.
Farnham itself is an idyllic and peaceful village with charming thatched cottages. It is located in the heart of Cranborne Chase on the Dorset / Wiltshire borders.
