The Larksmead project is in full swing with the planning and funding in place for the levelling of the pitches.
The pitches will be levelled and seeded, and then we are in the lap of the weather for the spring and summer, with the hope to start playing at Larksmead at the beginning of the season of 2014.
The left hand pitch will be 100 metres long by 70 metres, 5m dead ball area, the right hand pitch will be 90m by 62m with 5 m dead ball area and will be floodlighted with 6, 15m high light towers.
We will have sole occupation of the clubhouse, so will start to use it in its current form for the 2014 season, and will in conjunction run the clubhouse in town as normal.
Project Update 2:
Blandford RFCs new pitches are well under construction. The bulldozers moved in this week to Larksmead Recreation ground where there will be two full size rugby pitches with one fully flood lit to playing standards, it is a major step forward for the club to get new improved facilities.
These pitches will help secure the future of Blandford RFC, it is especially exciting for the Mini and Youth, they hope to gain players and expand the teams for all age groups.
The current pavilion will be used from September, with plans to extend it adding further changing rooms and a new bar area, in the future. All the works will be finished by the end of April including the seeding of the two pitches.
Blandford RFC have been looking for an area of ground to use for two pitches for some time, it is fitting that we are returning to Larksmead where Blandford RFC started playing. It is a very exciting time for the club, with both teams at the top of their leagues these facilities can only help and encourage new players to the club.
We would like to thank the Town Council and the RFU for their support and backing.
Project Update 3:
Blandford RFC would like to thank the neighbours of Larksmead Recreational ground for their patience and co operation over the last few weeks while the levelling work has been carried out on the two new rugby pitches.
Work has now finished and the grass should start to grow in the next week or so, please if people can stay off it until mid July this will give the grass a chance to get established for which we would be very grateful, as soon as the grass is up we will re instate the football goal posts for the community use.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused while the work has been carried out.
It is a exciting time for Blandford RFC and we expect the new pitches to help the growth and sustainability of the club for many seasons to come, we are looking forward to coming home to where the club started in 1976.
Blandford RFC are looking for a new senior coach to assist the current coaching team if interested please email Chairman Justin Frampton.
