Girls On Top! Despite the threat of a
soaking from the leaden skies, a healthy crowd turned out to watch Blandford
Rugby Clubs charity fund raising fixture between the men and the
legendary Raggy Dolls ladies side. It has become an annual event,
allowing us to raise money for local causes. Said organizer Sylvia Fife.
This year around £700 has been raised for the Larksmead Parent and
Toddler Group, specifically to purchase play tables for this volunteer
organization. After several weeks of intensive training under the
watchful eye of coach Kev Robbins, the ladies put on a glittering display of
running rugby against a eclectic mix of Blandfords finest men. With referee
Hugh Thomas applying a rather looser interpretation of the rules, and the boys
hampered by the traditional wellies and dresses uniform the girls
ran out clear 55 24 winners, with a stunning hat trick of tries from
Natalie Paul, two each from Julie Jones and Leanie Haim and one from Nikki
Bryers and Jo Wilde. Katie Haim putting her footballing skills to great effect
to kick five conversions. It was a real fun occasion for all
involved Said Boys manager Angus Rodgers. All the ladies played
with terrific enthusiasm and no small level of skill, and the lads who took
part made sure the spirit was fantastic. It was a great way to do some good for
the local community.
