Where has everyone gone!!!!!!
During pre-season training & the first month of the season we had 20+
players training, & we looked very capable of putting out 2 teams on a
regular basis.
We now have single figures at training & have found it difficult to field
one side, let alone 2.
Apart from the small dedicated group of players that are always turn up, there
seems to be a general apathy within the rest of the playing fraternity at the
club. This does not bode well for the future.
The club need players to be available for both games on a saturday, &
training, even if it is only once a week (I understand people do have other
commitments in their lives).
This is YOUR club, & YOU need to support it on the field.
Yes results have been disappointing, but this should spur us on to go forward
& improove.
I for one will not throw in the towel, but we can`t improove if we don`t turn up
for games, & I cannot coach if no one turns up to training.
Its your club,
Bridport Match
Once again the result does not do justice to how
well Blandford played as a team.
With a few changes to last weeks side it took time for us to settle. The lineout
functioned very well & we competed for most of the game against a stronger
more experienced Bridport pack. Tackling & defence was again improved over
last weeks performance, but the experience & skill of the Bridport backs
were our undoing. Some crucial missed tackles & a few wrong decisions were
the main difference between the sides, although we kept going right to end
showing good stamina.
Our training has started to show dividends with improvment in both the rucks
& mauls, although we still have plenty of work to do in these areas.
Once again there were more pluses than minuses from this game, & we continue
to build for the future.
Training as usual at 7.00pm on Tuesday & Thursday. Alan
Blandford RFC vs Wellington RFC
EDF Senior Vase Round 1
Sat 1st Sept
Blandford 0 Wellington 41
The score line belies how well we actually played, as it took 30 mins for
Wellington to gain their first score. They led 17 - 0 at half time, & it was
only in the last 10 mins when we started to tire a little that they scored 3
late tries to give the score its unbalanced look.
The defence for most of the game was excellent, against a much heavier &
more experienced Wellington pack. They had some lively backs, but our backs, for
the most part had they covered.
We did have our opportunities during a good 20 min spell of concerted effort in
the 2nd half, but we lacked a finishing touch.
We have plenty to work on in the comming weeks & months, but we now have a
solid base from which to work, & I`am pleased with progress we have made in
such a short time.
See you all at training on Tuesday & Thursday.
Next 1st XV fixture away against Bridport next Saturday 8th Sept.
